Representing East Scotland Association of Car Clubs, the team of John MacKenzie, Garry Dickson and Norman Murray won the inaugral MSA Regional Sprint Challenge Trophy at Curborough on Sunday.
It was a magnificent effort considering none of the drivers had seen Curborough until the weekend. John and Garry were fast as always, and Norman (coming in as a late replacement after John Stevenson and Graeme Bremner had car problems last week) was awesome. On road tyres in a class where his opposition were all on slicks, he lead the class throughout against some very quick Mitsubishi and Subaru competition.
The result was three class wins, and the ESACC team on top of the scoresheet.
Curborough is an excellent club motorsport venue, and Nottingham Sports Car Club certainly know how to run a meeting – although I am not sure they are used to our brand of ‘team spirit’….. We have a good deal to live up to, as we now have the honour of hosting the 2009 event. Read the forum topic here.
Congratulations to Aberdeen and District Motor Club on achieving the MSA Club of the Year Award. This is a highly prestigious award which reflects a
large amount of work done by comparitively few people in organising a huge
variety of motorsport activities, ranging from Sprints (of course!), the
Granite City Rally, several navigational road rallies, marshalling at rally
and speed events up and down Scotland, encouraging the development of
youngsters in Motorsport and generally being a very friendly club who treat
all of their members as part of a large family.
Anyone remember the Flying Fish Supper Skoda of Stuart Atkinson? The Skoda
didn't finish its days very happily, being wrapped around a tree at East
Brae at Doune by its not so caring owner, and that was Stuart's last
appearance on the hills. How's he been occupying his time since? Well, he's
found love - those of us who thought he was a long term bachelor were wrong,
and he will be marrying Lindsay at Perth on April 5 2008.
Lothian Car Club stalwarts the Naismiths are standing down from their duties
for personal reasons. Alistair is relinquishing his role as treasure over
the forthcoming year, to be shadowed by Martyn dunn until Martyn is felt
capable of adding 2 + 2 together ... (!). Margaret is also giving up her
role as Events Secretary, and is being suceeded by Billy Cater. Most of you
will know Billy - his contact details are on the Lothian Car Club website. I'm sure however neither Alistair nor Margaret will be
able to stay away from Doune and we look forward to seeing them in slightly
less arduous roles at Doune and possibly East Fortune.
News of Top Ten championship sponsor Mark Hutcheson - MH engineering. Mark
has recently taken on his first employee, in the form of Alex Murray. Alex
will be known to many of you as the Steve Murray look alike who drove the
multi coloured Alfa to win the Newcomer's award in the Hill's in 2007. This
means Mark will be able to take on more regular servicing and routine road
car work as well as the competition car work and suspension set ups he has
concentrated upon until now. Good news for anyone in Aberdeen and
surrounding areas! For contact details, please see the Sponsors' page on
this site.
News of one of Kenny Allen's ex's. His Vision V87H, now with 220bhp Vauxhall
XE and Hewland FT200 has been bought by Kieron Smyth in Northern Ireland.
Why do I mention this? Sprinters among you may know Kieron from his
appearances at Kames in the Ginetta Ecosse Challenge, most recently with the
G22 now owned (again) by David Baker. Given Kieron enjoys his weekends over
the water, I suspect it may gain a Ginetta badge and gatecrash the Challenge
at Kames in 2008.
Congratulations are due to Stewart Robb Junior on achieving the Newcomer's
award in the British Sprint Championship. While he was unable to join us at
the annual awards dance in Pitlochry this year due to business committments
- he preferred to go swanning off to Malaysia!! - plans are in place to
ensure that when he continues his amazing form in 2008, he will not be out of
the country!! How do I ensure this?! By telling his Mum when the awards
dinner is and she can help me tailor his work diary!! No escape next year
Stewart!!
Ian Thompson will be taking over from George Anderson as Hillclimb
coordinator for 2008. George served on the old Hills committee for many
years as scorer and latterly as co-ordinator and scorer, and I'm sure will
continue to appear at North East events either in a clerking capacity or as
a marshall when work allows. My impression is he gets to come out and play
with us when Aberdeen FC are not busy, so if you want to see George, support
anyone but AFC!! (Waits for hate mail!!).
